In support of the 2016 National MHA Week the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project, Suffolk County Community College, Team Red White & Blue (RWB), Airborne Tri-Team, Vets Lives Matter, and the Association for Mental Health and Wellness present the 22 Every 22 Challenge on October 5, 11am, at the Suffolk CCC Ammerman Campus.
The challenge will be to have everyone on the plaza to do 22 push-ups every 22 minutes during that hour. In between, they will have sponsoring organizations speak about community programs and resources offered to help reduce the risk of suicide. In addition, they will have resource tables available for one-on-one discussion and to learn more about what we can do as a collaborative community to remove the stigma of getting help.
The purpose of this program is to promote awareness surrounding national issue of veteran suicide. We know that 1 suicide is 1 too many; however in the veteran community there are 22 veterans per day that have completed suicides. The goal is to shed light on this national issue and to promote positive mental health through physical health and wellness. Raising awareness by discussing signs and symptoms, and dispelling myths about suicide will help save lives.
