The Heroes - and the stars! - will be out in full force for the 9th Annual IAVA Heroes Gala on November 12.
Held each year the day after Veterans Day, the Heroes Gala is an incredible night of patriotism and inspiration. This year, IAVA is proud to honor Army veteran, Bronze Star Medal recipient and football star Daniel Rodriguez with the 2015 Veteran Leadership Award. As an Army Sergeant, Daniel earned a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart for his courageous fighting during the Battle of Kamdesh in 2009. But it was after he took off the uniform that he achieved his lifelong dream by earning a spot on the roster at Clemson University, later signing as a free agent with the St Louis Rams and playing in four NFL pre-season games.
See what #VetsRising is all about by watching ESPN's inspirational profile of Daniel's military service and his football career below. Click here to congratulate him on our Facebook page.
IAVA will also honor Navy veteran and Chairman and CEO of Polaris Industries Inc., Scott Wine with the 2015 Civilian Leadership Award for leading Victory Motorcycle's groundbreaking promotion The Road Home, which has served thousands of veterans and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Late Show's Stephen Colbert - a former Civilian Leadership Awardee - will once again be on hand to honor our nation's veterans. Also joining us is longtime IAVA and veteran supporter, MSNBC and Today Show's Willie Geist, who will host the Gala, as well as American hero J.R. Martinez, "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Bob McDonald.
