The Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum hosts a free screening of American Veteran on March 5, 2pm.
America's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have created a new population of American veterans: service members so severely wounded they would have died in previous wars, but who survive because of advanced medical technology. Sgt. Nick Mendes was paralyzed from the neck down by an improvised explosive device and suffers from posttraumatic stress. American Veteran follows his recovery and sometimes harrowing, sometimes romantic, and often surprisingly funny life.
Intended for mature audiences only. This film includes explicit language and brief footage of explosions during tours of service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A discussion and Q&A with director Julie Cohen will immediately follow the film. This event is free with advance registration. Day-of inquiries will be required to purchase general admission tickets to the Museum.
