Join The Mission Continues and the Bronx River Alliance for a for a cleanup of Concrete Plant Park on June 24 9:45am, for the 6th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the waterways of New York City and the Hudson Valley.
Volunteers should meet at the benches near the big red tower at Concrete Plant Park. This Sweep project is best accessed by public transportation. This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with proper adult supervision.
Originally, a source of fishing and fresh water to the Mohegan Native Americans, the historic Bronx River, became an attraction for industry and trade. Unfortunately, with the industry, came heavy amounts of pollution, degrading the waterway. Concrete Plant Park is one of many green spaces that now the line river creating a platform for outdoor recreation like row boating, biking, and sports. This clean-up event will prevent trash from being washed down the Bronx River into Long Island Sound.
