Athletes, family members, and their teams from all over the nation will come to West Point for this motivational and inspirational event. Hundreds of wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and their Special Operations Commands will compete in eight adaptive sporting competitions (Archery, Cycling, Track, Field, Indoor Air Shooting, Swimming, Sitting Volleyball & Wheelchair Basketball) by their disability classifications for seven days.  At the end of the competitions, a closing ceremony will recognize the top performers in each sport with custom medals.

It takes many hours to plan this very special event.  Every volunteer will receive a 2016 DoD Warrior Games Official Volunteer T-Shirt as well as a Letter of Appreciation.  You’ll also gain:

  • Connections/Skills Enhancement – Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to the area.  It can strengthen your ties to the community and broaden your support network to people with common interests, neighborhood resources through fun and fulfilling volunteer duties.
  • Sense of Community – It showcases your gratitude and work towards giving back to create a healthy community.  When people get together, the job or assignment becomes easier to do.
  • Fulfillment – Helping others is a selfless act that kindles happiness, can increase self-confidence, give hope, provide a sense of purpose and increase your sense of accomplishment.  Emotionally it is an uplifting experience that can never be matched by money or fame.

Your support is valuable to the hundreds of wounded, ill, injured service members and veterans.  If you or your group can spare a few hours during the seven day sporting event, we would enjoy having you volunteer with us.  No special expertise required and all ages can participate.  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet these motivating and inspirational athletes giving their all and overcoming obstacles while continuing to thrive through adaptive sports.

The Warrior Games Athletic Competition was created in 2010 as an introduction to Paralympic Sports for the wounded, ill, injured service members and veterans.  The competition is a springboard for many service members and veterans to continue participating in sports program in their community.
