Veterans with ties to Long Island may be eligible to participate in Fairway Foundation's Purple Heart Campaign & Veteran's Home Giveaway.
The Fairway Foundation is interviewing eligible recipients: any local Veteran who qualifies is urged to apply by submitting a letter detailing why he or she is need of a home and DD-214 as proof of service. If the veteran is in the final tier of consideration then a full application will be requested. The home will be awarded to the veteran with the greatest need, not the greatest injury. Veteran candidates must have ties to Long Island, have served post 9/11/01, received an honorable discharge, and have been awarded a Purple Heart Medal. The nominee must also earn less than the Long Island median income and have the capability to afford the property taxes, insurance, utilities and upkeep of the home. A panel of veterans from several veteran organizations will make the final decision.
The Fairway Foundation launched the Purple Heart campaign to help increase awareness of the obstacles our veterans face when returning to civilian life. The Foundation is comprised of all volunteers and 100% of the money raised on Long Island goes to assist local veterans in need.
The Foundation raised enough funds locally to purchase this 3-bedroom / 2-bath home and the Interior Design Society LI chapter raised funds to contribute to the renovation costs. The Fairway Foundation and the IDS LI paired with NARI NYC/LI and other local contractors and volunteers to renovate the home. Interior Designers have donated their expertise, local Contractors and other volunteers have donated their labor, and businesses and individuals donated the materials and furnishings to complete the renovation.
