Adaptive Skating USA offers a disability-inclusive Learn-to-Skate program at Central Park’s famous Wollman Rink, running December 2, 2019-March 9, 2020.
Sessions will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:30-4pm. One-on-one and small group coaching sessions will last 30 minutes, with 30 minutes of supervised free skate. Learn to Skate USA registered, volunteer coaches will lead their skaters through Learn to Skate USA's Therapeutic Skating Curriculum at each skater’s individual pace, based upon ability. Specialized skating clinics will also be held at different times during the season for those
who wish to skate but are unable to attend during regularly scheduled sessions.
Skaters will be provided new equipment including ice skates, helmets, and equipment bags to carry gear to and from each session. Adaptive equipment will be provided for those who require it.
On-ice volunteers are welcome. In addition to being a proficient skater, volunteer requirements include registering with Learn to Skate USA, passing a background check, a SafeSport Training certificate, and proof of personal liability insurance.
