Through the American Rescue Plan, New York City has been allocated a historic number of “Emergency Housing Vouchers” to assist individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness. PEU is expanding it’s Home Support Unit (HSU) to help these new voucher recipients find and move into homes as soon as possible. What is the Public Engagement Unit?
By combining proactive outreach methods, long term case management and a unique interagency approach, the NYC Public Engagement Office breaks down bureaucratic barriers to help connect New Yorkers to key City services like housing and healthcare, and has been at the forefront of the City’s COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts.
PEU’s Home Support Unit (HSU) partners with City agencies and community-based organizations to connect New Yorkers receiving federal, state and City housing subsidies with landlords and brokers who have available apartments. The team has recruited thousands of landlords and brokers, helping them navigate the process for providing New Yorkers with long-term stable housing. With an increase of vouchers available for New Yorker’s during this period of recovery, HSU is expanding and looking for passionate staff to join their dynamic team at PEU.
HSU - Emergency Housing Voucher Program (EHVP) Outreach Roles
Job ID: 467381, PEU OUTREACH SPECIALIST - EHVP (51 temporary positions)
Home Support Unit Outreach Specialists conduct proactive outreach (by phone, text, and in-person) to landlords and brokers to identify available apartments and connect them to voucher holders. Specialists may also be tasked with supporting case management once a connection is established between a voucher recipient and an apartment. The posted salary range is incorrect. The fixed rate for this role is $31.04 per hour. This position will run through June 2023. While not guaranteed, there may be a possibility of moving into a permanent role at that time.

Leads manage a team of 2 - 8 Specialists. Ideal candidates will have 1+ years of supervisory experience in community organizations, campaigns, or social work. The posted salary range is incorrect. The fixed rate for this role is $68,048 annually.
