The Soldier's Arts Academy (SAA) will host its first International Poetry Competition.
They are looking for original, unpublished poems that are influenced by military life. The theme can be interpreted as loosely as you like as long as there is some link back to the military.
The competition is open to all members of the military community, whether you are a serving soldier, a veteran or a relative of a service person/ex service person. You do not need to be a published poet or have tons of experience, just have a go! This is also an international competition, so they welcome entries from across the globe.
There are two categories for the competition, each with prizes for the winning poem:
Adults (18 years and over)
First Prize: £50 cash prize and a selection of poetry books worth up to £100
Young Person (12 - 17 years)
First Prize: A selection of poetry books worth £50
They intend to hold a prize giving event on Wednesday 13th October 2021 whereby both winners will be announced. They hope that this will be a face to face event in which they can invite the shortlisted entries, but this is subject to covid restrictions. They will live stream the event in any circumstance and all entrants to the poetry competition will be given access to the live stream.
Both the winner of the adult category and the young persons category, will have their poems published on The Soldier's Arts Academy website.'
Entry submission deadline is Wednesday, September 15, 17:00 British Summer Time (BST)/5:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
