The abilITy Cisco Academy or IT Academy is an innovative training program where people with disabilities and veterans can earn industry-recognized skills and a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification. The IT Academy, in partnership with the NYC Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities and the NYC Mayor's Office of Veteran's Affairs, helps students get connected to employment opportunities in the IT industry.
Key Components of the Program:
An Accessible Academy that has been adapted for different learning styles in a physically accessible environment. it is tuition-free for qualifying students.
Work Readiness - Students participate in workshops and one-on-one coaching that adress topics such as resume writing, networking, mock interviews and workplace etiquette, often with potential employers.
Paid Internships provide students opportunities to apply skills in the workplace.
Cisco Certification that is professionally recognized within the tech industry.
Connections to Employers are a vital part of the program. Students work with an Employment Specialist who helps create individualized career plans and facilitates connections to jobs.
Eligibility
You may qualify if you:
Are a New York State resident
Have a documented disability or a US Veteran (disabled veterans are given priority)
Are unemployed or underemployed
Have a 10th grade reading level and 10th grade math level at TABE
Have a HS Diploma, GED (college preferred)
Have a demonstrable interest in technology - either post-secondary education, self-taught and/or work experience
Are able to commit to the 6-month training without missing a class, and the 3-month paid internship (approximately 25hours/week) in class or virtually due to COVID
Are legally authorized to work in the U.S.A.
Are ready to make an important commitment towards building your future
