Join members, community partners, and friends of the NYC Veterans Alliance on August 26 as we commemorate the 242nd Anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn with a 17.76-mile ruck march through historical sites to remember the service and sacrifice of American forces in the largest battle of the Revolutionary War--and to celebrate the vibrant culture and communities of present-day Brooklyn!
Our 17.76-mile route will begin at John Paul Jones Park in Bay Ridge and conclude at Fort Greene Park. Pack a backpack or rucksack with what you'll need for a long day on your feet, wear your NYC Veterans Alliance t-shirt (or clothing identifying you as a member of our veterans community), and get ready for curated history, including commemorations and displays at Green-Wood Cemetery and the Old Stone House, and visits to historic sites and markers sometimes "hidden in plain sight" in neighborhoods from Bay Ridge to Sunset Park, Park Slope, Gowanus, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights, and Fort Greene.
A mandatory route & safety brief, as well as a basic historical orientation, will take place at John Paul Jones Park before stepping off on the 17.76-mile route. We recommend planning your weekend transit schedule to arrive on time. Parking in Bay Ridge is limited and not recommended; we will not be returning as a group to the start point.
We'll have a post-march celebration in Fort Greene--stay tuned for updates here!
Registration fee will go toward materials and coordination specific to this event. Your additional donations will go toward our charitable programs.
NOTE: Please plan to march the entire route with us, start to finish. We will make planned stops, but our schedule will be based on the pace of the group. We won't be able to accommodate meetups at specific times at specific points prior to the finish. Thanks for understanding!
