Located in the New York Harbor and known as the Gateway to America for over 12 million immigrants from the 1890s to 1950s, Ellis Island is an enduring American symbol of freedom and hope.
In 2012, flood waters from Hurricane Sandy covered almost all of Ellis Island damaging a majority of its infrastructure. Ongoing repairs and recovery efforts have helped Ellis Island return to its pre-Sandy condition but there’s still more to be done.
To help revitalize Ellis Island, veterans and community members will spend this day of service working side-by-side, removing trash and debris and refurbishing the grounds.
TRANSPORTATION: There is only one way to get onto Ellis Island - by ferry at Battery Park or Liberty State Park. Mission Continues will provide ferry tickets. Please indicate which ferry to plan to take when RSVPing. Detailed project information, ferry departure times and ferry ticket pick up information will be given after Labor Day.
You must RSVP in order to receive a ferry ticket to be a part of the project. RSVP here.
