The Union County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs partners with the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission on September 19, 10am-2pm, in a Veterans Outreach Event to assist veterans with a wide assortment of services. Both agencies will have their outreach vehicles on site.
The Craft of War Writing Workshops (Bronx) are offered in collaboration with Voices From War, on Saturdays beginning September 19 - December 5, 12-2pm. All Voices From War workshops are running ONLINE due to precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jeremy Warneke instructs this 10-session workshop. Veteran family members also welcome. Prior writing experience not required.
In this free workshop, write your own narratives while reading excerpted fiction and non-fiction by veterans, military spouses, and select civilians. Each week student work will be shared to learn from each other's strengths and successes, while also discussing ways to come closer to the stories we want to tell, for ourselves or a larger audience.

NYC Department of Veterans' Services and Nourish NY have partnered to offer Food Distribution on September 19, 1-3pm, to veterans and military families facing food insecurity.
Prepacked meal bags consist of perishable items such as: protein, dairy, grocery & produce to make two nutritional meals per bag. Anyone who wishes to volunteer to pack up meals may do so 9am-12pm on the day of.

The HERO Wounded Warriors Tennis Program is offered September 19, 5:30-7pm. They will provide tennis racquets to those who need them.

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum's Military Family Program is going virtual on September 20, 11-11:45am (EST)! Join current and former military service members and their families (children ages 3-18) via Zoom for a free interactive program.

Attend the Warrior Writers Virtual Workshop on September 20, 6-8pm (EST). This generative creative writing workshop will offer prompts that cover a variety of military issues and experiences. This encourages sharing stories, opinions, and ideas for productive writing/reflecting/story-telling and art-making. A highlight of these workshops for many veterans is having a space to release bottled-up thoughts and emotions among others who understand, creating a sense of empowerment in the ability to tell their own story. By creating an open and accepting atmosphere, Warrior Writers build a community of support. Workshops are for any service member or veteran regardless of experiences with writing, combat, art, deployment, etc.

The I Was There Film Workshop is sponsored by Patton Veterans Project, Inc. During the 3-day workshop, September 21-23, you will work with fellow veterans and expert filmmakers to produce a short film expressing service experiences that matter to you. You must attend all three days.
This workshop will take place over Zoom. A smart phone is required. A computing device like a laptop, desktop, or iPad/tablet is ideal but not a requirement for participation.

Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County presents an Informational Meeting for Affordable Home Ownership for Veterans and Seniors in Washington Township on September 21, 7pm. Masks required, this in-person meeting will be socially distant.
This opportunity is open to seniors who are 55 years or older; honorably discharged US veterans; and all applicants must attend 1 of 3 mandatory meetings.
