The United States Veterans Chamber of Commerce hosts a free Virtual Career and Education Fair on December 9, 9am-4pm (EST), for veterans, as well as their spouses and caregivers. Participants will have the opportunity to have their resumes seen by employers and higher education institutions.
Military Officers Association of America offers a virtual seminar: Maximize Your Overall Compensation Package on December 9, 1-4pm (EST). Join MOAA’s financial and benefits expert Capt. Paul J. Frost, AFC®, USN (Ret), and MOAA’s senior director for transition services, Col. Brian Anderson, USAF (Ret), for a live and interactive virtual classroom. The event is open to transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and military spouses.
The salary and benefits negotiation process is unlike any other formal negotiating you might have done, such as with cars or homes. Moreover, your conduct during the negotiation process will directly affect your relationship with your future employer. Travis Manion Foundation offers a Virtual Character Story Reading (for 2nd to 5th graders) on December 9, 3pm (EST). TMF's Northeast team offers opportunities for your child to participate in conversations about character, service and leadership through both guided discussions and story readings.Character Does Matter strengthens character and leadership skills in young adults. Grounded in the evidence-based field of Positive Psychology, the program uses a strengths-based approach to foster character traits in the next generation through a combination of informal discussions and activity-based learning. Joseph P. Dwyer of Suffolk County offers Veteran Peer Mentor Training on December 10, 9am-12pm (EST). The training is designed to help peers develop the critical competencies to work with veterans, from relationship building to ensuring effective linkages. Open to anyone who works with veterans in the community, especially those experiencing post service challenges: veteran advocates, community leaders, university staff, social workers, nurses/primary care workers/public health staff, volunteers and caregivers.The training is free.
