MOAA Marketing Yourself for a Second Career

Military Officers Association of America offers a webinar Marketing Yourself for a Second Career on July 28, 1-3pm (EST).

There is now a “new normal” as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, and it has created a host of uncertainties with regard to the job market. Unemployment numbers are steadily rising, and forecasts suggest the economy faces significant challenges. These realities make it more important than ever for job seekers to ensure they have properly prepared for their transition. But where to start?

This webinar covers the entire spectrum of career transition: the importance of transition planning; the current job market and economy; writing an effective resume; leveraging LinkedIn; preparing for the interview process; and how to be ready when the time comes to conduct salary negotiations.

Join Capt. Patricia Cole, USN (Ret), Program Director, MOAA Career Transition Services, for an information-packed webinar on your transition journey.

This encourages sharing stories, opinions, and ideas for productive writing/reflecting/story-telling and art-making. A highlight of these workshops for many veterans is having a space to release bottled-up thoughts and emotions among others who understand, creating a sense of empowerment in the ability to tell their own story. By creating an open and accepting atmosphere, Warrior Writers build a community of support. Workshops are for any service member or veteran regardless of experiences with writing, combat, art, deployment, etc.

Register here. This class is led by Warrior Writers director and military family member Lovella Calica.

    MOAA Evaluating Employee Benefits

Military Officers Association of America offers a webinar Evaluating Employee Benefits on July 29, 10am-12pm (EST).

Prior to serving, most veterans never had to evaluate an employee benefit package. What is a 401(k) retirement plan? How do I replace my SGLI? For retirees, should I use the company’s health care plan or stick with TRICARE? What factors should I be thinking about during this monumental transition?

The salary negotiation process is unlike any other formal negotiating you might have done, such as with cars or homes. Moreover, your conduct during the negotiation process will directly affect your relationship with your future employer. The employer wants you to be happy, but it is up to you to understand your options and to articulate effectively the things that will give you the greatest professional and personal satisfaction

Join Capt. Paul Frost, AFC®, USN (Ret), MOAA’s program director for financial and benefits education/counseling/veteran services, for expert guidance.
