    NYC DVS & Nourish NY Food Distribution

    NYC Department of Veterans' Services and Nourish NY have partnered to offer Food Distribution on October 28, 1:30-3pm, to veterans and military families facing food insecurity.

    Prepacked meal bags consist of perishable items such as: protein, dairy, grocery & produce to make two nutritional meals per bag.

    Travis Manion Foundation Virtual Character Discussions

    Travis Manion Foundation offers a Virtual Character Discussion (for 6th to 12th graders) on October 28, 3pm (EST). TMF's Northeast team offers opportunities for your child to participate in conversations about character, service and leadership through both guided discussions and story readings.

    Character Does Matter strengthens character and leadership skills in young adults. Grounded in the evidence-based field of Positive Psychology, the program uses a strengths-based approach to foster character traits in the next generation through a combination of informal discussions and activity-based learning. By sharing stories of real people who exemplify great character and leadership, Character Does Matter demonstrates what it means to live the “If Not Me, Then Who…” ethos – and challenges students to do the same.

    Veteran Peer Mentor Training

    Joseph P. Dwyer of Suffolk County offers Veteran Peer Mentor Training beginning October 29, 9am-12pm. The training is designed to help peers develop the critical competencies to work with veterans, from relationship building to ensuring effective linkages. Open to anyone who works with veterans in the community, especially those experiencing post service challenges: veteran advocates, community leaders, university staff, social workers, nurses/primary care workers/public health staff, volunteers and caregivers.
    The training is free. Space is limited. Participants must attend two half-day sessions (October 29 & November 5).

    Military and Veteran Virtual Career Fair

    Military Officers Association of America and FASTPORT offer a Military and Veteran Virtual Career Fair on October 29, 1-3pm (EST). The event is open to transitioning servicemembers, veterans, and military spouses.

    At 1pm, hear from a diverse panel of talent acquisition professionals who are ready to share key insights on how to articulate your value and what they are looking for in successful candidates.

    From 1:30-3 pm, you'll be able to engage in 1-on-1 chats with military-friendly and veteran-ready companies from various industries and sectors. If you make a connection via text, be prepared if employers want to start a 1-on-1 video chat to move the discussion forward. They are looking to interview and hire candidates like you!
