    West Point Band Music Under the Stars 2022: Give Up the Funk

    The West Point Band is proud to announce its “Music Under the Stars” 2022 summer concert series at West Point’s iconic Trophy Point Amphitheater.  Join them for the Benny Havens Band's "Give Up the Funk" performance on Saturday, August 6, 7:30pm.

    Experience a piece of living history as the active-duty Soldiers of the West Point Band perform world-class music overlooking the waters that George Washington called “the key to the continent.”

    Audiences are welcome to bring picnics, explore the beautiful and historic grounds of West Point - the U.S. Military Academy, and enjoy scenic Hudson River views set to a soundtrack of music from across the spectrum of the American experience – classical, jazz, pop, patriotic, and more! Best of all, these concerts are FREE and open to the public.*

    Intrepid Access Family Program: Aircraft Design

    Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host Aircraft Design, an Access Family Program at the Museum on Sunday, August 7th. 

    Creating new types of airplanes involves understanding aircraft design of the past and innovating for the future. Explore Intrepid’s aircraft collection to hone observational skills, compare different types of airplanes, and learn what’s new in aircraft design.

    11am-1pm for Children (ages 5-18)

    2-4pm for Teens and Adults (ages 14+)

     

    More about Access Family Programs:

    The Intrepid Museum offers monthly programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. These programs take place on select Sundays during regular Museum hours. Families take a guided, interactive tour or virtual tour of the Museum and can participate in art-making activities that everyone can enjoy.

    In 2022, Access Family Programs alternate each month between virtual and in-person programs. Virtual programs take place over Zoom and include at-home activity packets. In-person programs take place at the Museum, with a morning session for children and an afternoon session for teens and adults.

    NYC Veterans Advisory Board Virtual Public Session

    The NYC Veterans Advisory Board (VAB) invites you to participate in a virtual public session on Wednesday, August 10, 6pm.  This session will address concerns from veterans from Brooklyn.

    The VAB is a group of veterans appointed by the Mayor and the Speaker of the NYC Council to advise the NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS). The VAB holds meetings throughout the year to hear directly from NYC veterans and their families. Community members who participate in these public meetings help shape recommendations for NYC policymakers.

    Bay Eden Senior Center in Bronx, NY

    Speaker Carlisle E. Heastie Monthly Ruck March

    Speaker Carl E. Heastie and the US Military invite you to join them at the Bay Eden Senior Center for a Monthly Ruck March on Saturday, August 13, 6am.  Open to veterans, auxilliary cadets, and members of the community.

    The group will meet at 6am at the senior center; the march will begin at 6:15am.

    This is a 1-2 mile hike at your own pace under supervision of active and retired members of the military to enhance health, wellness, and fitness.  The course is 1-3 laps around Cardinal Spellman High School.

    Bring a hydration source such as a water bottle or energy drink, and light snacks.  Wear comfortable shoes for beginners or military style boots for experienced participants.

    The Ruck March will take place the 2nd Saturday of every month.

    Ulster County Salutes Our Heroes Tribute Concert

    Ulster County will host Ulster County Salutes the Hudson Valley Heroes Tribute Concert at the Ulster County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 17, 4-9pm. Rain date is Sunday, September 18.

    Free admission!

    There will be live music, food, and fireworks!

    Last year’s event was great and this year’s will be even better!  They will have MORE attractions, MORE things for the kids to do, MORE food, MORE music, and most importantly MORE of a reason now than ever to bring the community together in fellowship as we honor our Military Veterans and First Responders!

    All proceeds from this event will go to the Hope for Heroes Lodge.

    Virtual Intrepid Access Family Program: Sea, Air and Space Food

    Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host Sea, Air and Space Food, a Virtual Access Family Program at the Museum on Sunday, September 18, 11am-12pm EDT.

    Food is an important part of any travel experience. Learn about food on Intrepid, British Airways Concorde, and NASA space shuttles and determine for yourself which is the tastiest!

    Registration will open in mid-August.
