A Conversation About Veterans Treatment Courts

Join NYSHealth for a Conversation About Veterans Treatment Courts on November 8, 12-2pm. Judge Robert Russell, founder of the first Veterans Treatment Court, will lead the conversation. Speakers will discuss the history of Veterans Treatment Courts and what else needs to be done to ensure that every veteran has access to this invaluable resource. To provide an alternative to incarceration, Veterans Treatment Courts follow a specialized court model to intervene in cases involving veterans with mental health or substance use issues who have committed low-level crimes. Founded in Buffalo, NY, in 2008 and replicated across the country over the past decade, Veterans Treatment Courts have provided justice-involved veterans with a second chance by providing them with the treatment they need while allowing them to stay in their own communities.
