American Airpower Museum C-47 D-Day Living History Flight Experience

The American Airpower Museum will hold a C-47 D-Day Living History Flight Experience at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY on Saturday, July 31, 10am-4pm.

The Museum's Douglas C-47 Skytrain Troop Transporter, "The Gooney Bird," along with its team of professional re-enactors will provide a breathtakingly realistic recreation of what US Airborne Paratroopers felt on their historic D-Day mission.  Three flights are set for the day, with a fourth available to meet extra demand.  Seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so book your C-47 flight now!

AAM's Flight Experience is a one-of-a-kind immersive educational program where re-enactors take you up in the AAM's original WWII C-47 to give you a sense of what US 101st and 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers experienced on their incredible 1,200-plane D-Day assault.  Re-enactors are led by Robert Scarabino, noted WWII Living Historian who has organized AAM's Living History Flight Experience since the program's inception in 2003.  This unique experience includes:

a mission briefing in the ready room

a chance to wear authentic military field jackets, helmets and gear

the actual sights and sounds as the C-47's engines fire up and you're off into the blue

the ability to see, hear and feel the crew operating the C-47 and paratroopers getting ready for battle

the ability to line up and attach your hook to the overhead static line! (Don't worry, no jumping is allowed!)

Three WWII Veterans will attend the C-47 D-Day Flight Experience, joining the guests in the march to the C-47 for photo ops.  Veterans will reflect on and share their WWII memories.  These veterans are:

Gene Levy, 95, East Northport, US Army 100th Infantry Division, 398th Regiment, Battle of the Bulge

Joseph Salvatore Randazzo, 95, West Babylon, US Army 75th Infantry Division, 291st Regiment, shot in Germany near Dortmund

Dr. Richard Heinl, 96, Syosset, US Army 94th Infantry Division (part of Gen. George Patteon's Third Army), 376th Regiment

The cost of the C-47 flight is $350.  This is a family-friendly experience for all ages.  The program is about 1.5 hours long and each flight takes 25 minutes.  A flight experience entitles you to bring an additional person who can visit the Museum free of charge.  You may also wish to visit AAM on Saturday, July 31st just to watch the flights and tour the Museum.  Regular Museum admission is:

$15 for adults

$10 for seniors and veterans

$8 for children ages 5-12
