The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema presents the Fulbright Film Series: How We Cope on March 19, 7pm. The series includes selected short films that explore endurance, resilience, and healing.
Venus (2010) – by Melissa Hacker (Austria, 2010), 4 minutes, Experimental. Venus is a silent encounter with the Anatomical Venus, an enigmatic 18th century wax model in the Josephinum Medical Museum in Vienna.
Joy Street (1995) – by Suzan Pitt (Guatemala, 1989), 24 minutes, Animation. Screened in 35mm courtesy of Academy Film Archive, in tribute to Suzan Pitt (1943-2019). A woman travels from suicidal despair to personal renewal, with the help of an unlikely spirit guide.
Exit 12: Moved by War (2019) – Directed by Mohammed Gorjestani, produced by Taylor Feltner and Erick Kwiecien, and featuring Roman Baca (United Kingdom, 2017), 24 minutes, Documentary. US Marine Roman Baca returned from Iraq ravaged with depression, anxiety, and anger — which led him to start Exit12, a dance company that tells stories about the effects of war.
Roman Baca will be appearing in person as part of the panel that follows the film screenings.
