There will be a Memorial Service for WWII veteran Rocco Moretto on September 1, 9am.
Moretto was a US Army veteran who landed with his unit on Omaha Beach in Normandy on June 6, 1944 and fought with his unit in every major engagement for the rest of World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Huertgen Forest. During that period, Moretto was one of only two men from his original company of 219 who survived without being captured or wounded. He was discharged as a staff sergeant and returned home in 1945. Long Island City VFW Post 2348 was renamed in his honor in 2013.
A cemetery and burial service will follow the ceremony at St. John’s Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made in memory of Rocco to Disabled American Veterans & Wounded Warrior Project.
