If I asked you to think about the artists and songs of the Vietnam Era, who would you mention?
There are so many examples, from Pete Seeger to Marvin Gaye. What would moves like Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket be without their soundtrack?
What about if I asked you to name the artists and songs of the post 9/11 era? A lot harder, right? What musicians have truly been engaged with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in a substantive way?
This is the question that inspired Soundtrack of War, a musical event that Service Together, will be hosting on April 28, 6:30pm! The evening will include performances by Eli Smith, host of the Down Home Radio Show and Smithsonian Folkways recording artist, as well as Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders and Fugs. They will be joined by Feral Foster, Ernie Vega, and Ali Dineen. Commentary will be provided by Farid Johnson, singer, percussionist, and Vietnam Veteran, as well as Brandon Mills, singer, songwriter, and Marine Recon Scout Sniper.
