9/11 Immersive Audio Experience: Bikeman
On September 11, 2001, journalist Tom Flynn set off on his bike toward the World Trade Towers not knowing what he was riding into. Bikeman is one man’s journey back to the horrors of that day and to the humanity that somehow emerged from the dust and the death. Both heartbreaking and haunting, his words will stay with you like that “forever September morning.” – Meredith Vieira, NBC’s Today.
Modeled on Dante’s Inferno, veteran journalist Thomas Flynn’s Bikeman chronicles the morning of September 11, 2001, like no other published work. Flynn delivers a personal account of his experiences beginning with the first strike on the World Trade Center when he decided to follow his journalist’s instinct and point his bike’s handlebars in the direction of the north tower. His story continues as he transitions from reporter to participant hoping to survive the fall of the south tower. Now Flynn, as both journalist and now survivor, must come to terms with the harrowing ordeal and somehow find peace in the very act of surviving.

The Skyscraper Museum presents Remembering 9/11: Before, After, and Since.
The Skyscraper Museum, which opened in 2004 at 39 Battery Place in Battery Park City, just blocks south of the World Trade Center site, will commemorate the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 with a series of virtual programs. From September through November, a series of webinars will bring together key figures closely associated with the recovery and rebuilding of the World Trade Center site to consider the history of the original Twin Towers and their destruction on 9/11, the aftermath of recovery and rebuilding at Ground Zero, and the cumulative changes to the built environment, community, and economy of lower Manhattan over the past two decades.
Noting that twenty years may seem a short time ago to many who experienced 9/11, but also represents the entire lifetime of young adults, the Museum’s programs will seek to both retrieve and document the in-the-moment memories of key figures closely associated with the recovery and rebuilding project, as well as invite their thoughts on how 9/11 changed New York – or, indeed, if it did?

Where were you when The Towers fell? A question that still lingers on lips as we approach the 20th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001. To call it an anniversary belies the positive connotations that usually surround this word. It's a marking of time, of years without friends and loved ones, of imagined history and dashed dreams. "Never Forget" is the phrase we use.
What more can we see that hasn't been seen before, playing, again and again, reliving that day? With the cooperation of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in downtown Manhattan, Photographer Henry Leutwyler was commissioned by National Geographic, for their September issue, to explore the museum's archive of over 70,000 objects, remnants, and remembrances recovered from that day. Some are identifiable, and others remain fragments of their former selves. Many have never been seen by the general public.
