Situation: Ten years ago, 12 July 2011, we lost Sergeant Daniel C. DeMaio prematurely. We honor him every year with a 7.12 mile hike through some of the great places that Dan and I would go to when he was on Long Island. Mission: 7.12 Mile Hike from Popei's Clam Bar, Coram to Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson. Execution: Like year's past, we will link up at Popei's Clam Bar, Coram at 0845 for the safety brief. 0900 we will step off from Coram and head down Route 112 North towards Port Jefferson. 0945 we will arrive at our first rally point, Coram Fire Department, Station 2, for a 5 minute photo op. 1100 we will arrive at Hurricane's Port Jefferson for a drink if you partake. ONLY ONE!!! This tends to be our longest stop and gets us behind schedule. Plan on leaving at 1115. 1215 we get to Billy's, Port Jefferson. We will be skipping the Tara's stop as this is again a place that we linger. Billy's is right around the corner from the finish point so it will be our final rally point. If you want to finish with the team, be at Billy's by 1200. We will depart Billy's by 1245 to get to our landing spot at 1300. 1300 we will arrive at Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson. 1400 back to Popei's to celebrate Dan's life and my 34th Birthday. Admin and Logistics: We will need vehicles at the end point to help with bringing the troops back to Popei's at the end of the hike. If you are staging vehicles, please be at Harborfront Park by 0800. This will be a difficult part and require patience. We will figure this out. Command and Signal: RJN will be main Point of Contact.
