The Black Veterans Project is a nonprofit organization that aims to advance a more equitable and just system of care for Black veterans through research, advocacy, and community engagement. Founded and run by a team of Black veterans, their work focuses on addressing systemic inequities in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and society at large, with a particular focus on healthcare, mental health, and education.
During this webinar, BVP cofounder Richard Brookshire and MVJ members Clyde Gunter and Caron LeNoir will engage in a conversation about Black veterans issues and provide tips for journalists to improve their reporting on these topics.

About the Speakers
Richard Berkshire
Richard Brookshire is the Co-Founder and CEO of the Black Veterans Project, an organization furthering research, national reporting and storytelling to advance racial equity for Black veterans in and out of uniform. As a storyteller, Richard leverages a background in political communications and digital advocacy to deliver strategic and dynamic social-impact campaigns. Richard has previously served as Director of Communications for Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America and Deputy Director for Communications, Politics at the Human Rights Campaign. He is an alumnus of Morehouse College and a graduate of Fordham University and holds an MPA in Urban & Social Policy from Columbia University SIPA. A former infantry Combat Medic and U.S. Army veteran of the War in Afghanistan Richard’s commentary and efforts have been highlighted by the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, theGrio, and others.
Caron LeNoir
Caron LeNoir is an American journalist, producer, artist, and activist. The founder of CARONISMedia Group, CARONISM Audio Network, and The Center for Sensual Arts examines life, sexual politics, faith, and power dynamics in the arts and entertainment. A formerly homeless disabled veteran, Caron honorably served in both the US Navy and Army. Her experience informs her advocacy for the diverse voices of women, women veterans, and mental health.
Clyde Gunter
Clyde Gunter is a Navy veteran turned media professional who is passionate about social justice and veteran issues. He completed his studies in Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking at The New York Film Academy and has received multiple awards for his leadership and performance during his time in the Navy. In addition, Clyde has worked for ESPN and Color of Change, the nation's largest online social justice organization. He is a founding member of Military Veterans in Journalism, and serves as a braintrust member for The Black Veterans Project. Recently, he achieved his first byline in Men's Health Magazine, proudly covering a fellow Black veteran for Veterans Day.
