Understanding the Importance of Military Culture

Legal Services NYC presents the workshop "Understanding the Importance of Military Culture and the Unique Issues for Veterans in Family Court" on July 19, 3pm. Military veterans undergo experiences very different from that of the vast majority of the American people. Military life, particularly if it involves combat, indelibly shapes veterans and often has significant implications for their family, housing, education, and employment. This class will explore the diversity of veterans' experiences, veteran-client interactions with counsel, and documentary and testimonial evidence from veterans. Then, they'll examine how best to offer quality representation for veterans in family court cases, and before social service agencies and other organizations involved in family matters. At the conclusion of the session, you'll have a richer understanding of how military culture can better inform our work with our veteran-clients in family court and in other venues.
