The COVID-19 pandemic has presented event organizers with unprecedented challenges. Guided by these principles, and in anticipation of the continued suspension of large gatherings and events, the United War Veterans Council has developed a series of socially distant and responsible live Veterans Day events on November 11 as well as an expanded slate of virtual components lasting all day, beginning at 6am (EST):
The Veterans Day Motorcade will mobilize the regular parade participants on Fifth Avenue in a symbolic and safe way. A motorized convoy of 120 vehicles will muster and roll down at least a portion of the traditional parade route.
Virtual Line of March - On Veterans Day, UWVC social media streams will roll out 200+ profiles of regular parade participants, with a group “stepping off” every minute.
Veterans Day TV Special – 12:30-2pm: A 90-minute live broadcast on WABC, the most-watched station in the nation.
Motorcycle Ride – A special ride down the Parade route by veteran motorcycle groups.
Wreath Layings – Small, socially distant ceremonies at select locations throughout the city, including “made for TV” moments to engage the general public.
